Tandanya's Collection

Tandanya’s Collection consists of over 500 works by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists from throughout Australia and has been steadily growing since the organisation incorporated in 1989. The Collection comprises works on canvas, board and bark, prints, textiles, photography, sculpture, ceramics, graphics and artefacts. While some of the items have been purchased from Tandanya’s small acquisitions fund, much of the collection has grown from donors who wish to see culturally significant works being held and controlled by Indigenous people themselves. Tandanya is planning to refurbish its holding facilities and is in the process of making its collection more accessible to the public through a new cataloguing regime.

 

The current focus areas for the Tandanya Art Collection are:

• Works by Australian Indigenous artists who have made a significant contribution to contemporary Australian art practice

• Works that have a demonstrated history of exhibition

• Posters, prints, and signed edition graphics
