SPIRIT FESTIVAL 2012

24 - 26 February 2012

South Australia's premier Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts and Cultural Festival is an annual FREE family friendly event held in the heart of the city at Mullawirraburka (Rymill Park next to Tandanya) and features the very best music, ceremony, cultural workshops, forums and visual arts.  We're proud to be the main concert on the Fringe Festival opening night featuring KINEMAN KARMA, ZENNITH and BIG BOLD AND SEXY STAR MS CASEY DONOVAN. Saturday you can hear music from sun up to sun down with GLENN SKUTHORPE, EDDIE PETERS, TONY MINNIECON and new comers BECK GOLLAN and ELLIE LOVEGROVE.  Hosted by Kevin Kropinyeri
 
Get ready for the SPIRIT DANCE CEREMONY hosted by Frances Rings (Bangarra) Saturday night from 7:30pm over 60 dancers featuring traditional Inma to contemporary fusions of the past and future, young, old this night of ceremony is going to dance up big we dare you to miss it!
 
Our writers program is a highlight this year presented in partnership with the David Unaipon College of Indigenous Education and Research - UniSA we launch SOUTHERLY PUBLICATIONS Indigenous writers edition, TJANPI DESERT WEAVERS amazing publication and WONGAIJDA WAVE voices of many with key note speaker the award winning DYLAN COLEMAN (SA) and also on the bill graphic novelist BRENTON MCKENNA (WA) hosted by Cathy Craigie.
 
Sunday a full day of music from WARREN MILERA, JIMBLAH, ROUGH IMAGE, COREY THEATRE, CAPER, BLACK DIAMOND and  the NGARRINDJERI MIMINAR KAIKIAN CHOIR with dance from TAIKURTINNA, KUMA KAARU, and TAL-KIN-JERI hosted by Matt Hein.
 
Closing the festival is Women of Soul starring EMMA DONOVAN with Evie J Willie and Miss Min Sunday 9PM.
 
Workshops, forums, visual arts market, cultural demonstrations (times will be announced soon)
 
The Spirit Festival is a FREE family friendly drug and alcohol free event come and share in the oldest living culture in the world – All welcome!
