Tandanya Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Arts Fair & Film Program

Tandanya is celebrating 20 years in October 2009. To mark this occasion we have an Arts Fair with concert and a film program all free for you to enjoy, experience, take part in and most of all to help us celebrate!

On October 24th the inaugural Tandanya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts Fair will take place on the Rymill Park extension, next to Tandanya, from 10am to 5pm. The Arts Fair will be a vibrant event celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait visual arts as a vital, living and important cultural practice.

Works will be displayed outside with each artist in attendance to present and sell their works. More than 40 artists will be there on the day, including Same Lester, Heather Shearer and Conrad Blackman as well as artists from the APY Lands, Ceduna Arts and Crafts and Mimili Maku Arts.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to talk with the artists and learn directly from them about their art practice, cultural content and personal histories.

A jammed packed performing arts program has also been organised to run throughout the day for all the enjoy. A diverse array of dance and music from Drum Atweme, Kurruru and Kuma Karro to Rough Image, Tony Minniecon - The Journey, MERRg and Kineman Karma will be performing.

Also on the day there will be storytelling and art and craft workshops as well as a yidaki (didgeridoo) demonstration. Turkindi will be providing a free BBQ for everyone to enjoy.

The Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Film Program will be running from 17 - 23 October 2009. Featuring award winning films and documentaries by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander film-makers, provising an insight into Aboriginal perspectives, culture and contemporary art practice.

The daily film program will screen Bit of Black Business, Sacred Ground, Kanyini and Liyarn Ngarn on a rotational basis. Please check the Events page of this website for session details.
