Our Metro Mob 2009

SALA Festival

 

Tandanya is proud to announce the opening of Our Metro Mob 2009 (17 July - 4 October) exhibition as part of the SALA Festival program. The official opening will be at Tandanya on Wednesday, 12th August at 6pm.

The Our Metro Mob exhibition features Adelaide based Aboriginal emerging and established artists showcasing contemporary, vibrant modern pieces from artists with backgrounds from across Australia's many diverse language groups.

The exhibition explores artists' experiences and notions of Aboriginal culture, demonstrated through creative interpretations and visual representation by emerging and talented participants. The exhibition will comprise of thirteen local artists utilising mediums such as acrylics and ochre. It also includes jewellery made from materials such as bones, stones and quills. These works encapsulate identity, connectedness and provide meaning for the artists Aboriginality and give the viewer insight into story, concepts and celebration of Australia Indigneous culture and art.

Some of the artists include Jacinta Dixon, Brenton McKenna, Nikki Carabetta and successful 2009 Telstra Art Award applicant Peter Sharrock.

The SALA Festival provides a platform for South Australian artist to take par in events all over SA. It provides the chance to exhibit art, whilst providing pathways through community involvement and collaboration. The Our Metro Mob exhibition enhances the SALA event with its cutlrual content, offering artists the opportunity to present and represent themselves to the public at one of Australia's premier cultural institutes, Tandanya.

In conjunction to Our Metro Mob, the Adelaide Festival Centre will be showcasing SA regional based Aboriginal artists in the Our Mob exhibition.
