Lives of the Papunya Tula Artists
Tandanya is proud to host the South Australian launch of the Lives of the Papunya Tula Artists (IAD Press) by Vivien Johnson. This superb publication brings together into one beautifully illustrated book over 200 biographies of Western Desert painters from the artist-owned cooperative Papunya Tula Artists Pty Ltd. This cooperative, established in 1972, founded the Australian desert art movement and in turn continues to profoundly influence the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art movement on an International level.
This publication represents a landmark for IAD Press, Australia’s longest running Indigenous publisher. IAD Press is the publishing arm of the Institute for Aboriginal Development, located in Alice Springs (Mparntwe country).
In conjunction with the release of this book, a small exhibition of contemporary Papunya Tula artworks, supplied by AP Bond Art Dealer, will be on display for sale in the Tjilbruke Gallery at Tandanya 12 November – 1 December 2008.
Lives of the Papunya Tula Artists will be on sale in the Tandanya Retail Shop for $99.95 from 12 November. Contact Kel Rankine to secure your copy today at kellyr@tandanya.com.au or on 08 8224 3216.
