Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival 2008

The 2008 Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival is touring the country and will once again be screening at Tandanya from 7 - 10 August 2008.

This year's Message Sticks will examine the state of play in Indigenous Australia with 12 documentaries and short films by established and emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander directors. The festival's curators, Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale from Blackfella Films have asked some big questions about Indigenous Australia in a post-apology environment. The films address contemporary Indigenous life and show with honesty the thoughts and feelings of what happens when ancient Aboriginal and modern Australian culture meet on an individual and community level.

Festival highlights include Darlene Johnson's documentary River of No Return a true story of an Arnhem Land mother (Frances Djulibing, Ten Canoes) who dreams of being a Hollywood star. Another is Mad Morro by Kelrick Martin, a provocative film about James 'Mad Morro' Morris, an indigenous Taree man, who is to be released after serving 13 years (Please be advised that Mad Morro features frequent coarse language and adult themes).
