Tandanya celebrating 20 years!
October 2009
Tandanya is celebrating 20 years in October 2009. To mark this occasion we have a number of events and exhibitions for you to enjoy, experience, take part in and most of all to help us celebrate!
There will be an exhibition to celebrate Tandanya's anniversary which will focus on the strong visual arts practice by South Australian Indigenous artists over the past two decades. Artists will come from across the State: from Adelaide city to regional and remote communities that have forged vital pathways in the making and presentation of visual art. Artists will range from emerging through to established and most will be represented by an early and a more recent work, demonstrating the evolution of their practice.
Also happening in October will be a Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Film Festival. Featuring award winning films and documentaries by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander film-makers, providing an insight into Aboriginal perspectives, culture and contemporary art practice.
On October 24th the inaugural Tandanya Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Fair will take place on the Rymill Park extension next to Tandanya. The Art Fair will be a vibrant event celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait visual arts as a vital, living and important cultural practise. Works will be displayed outside with each artist will be in attendance to present their works. To date we have upto 40 artists including Sam Lester, Heather Shearer and Conrad Blackman as well as artists from the APY Lands, Ceduna Arts and Crafts, Mimili Maku Arts.
Also on the 24th will be a performing arts program, presenting a diverse array of dance and music and there will be storytelling, art, craft and weaving workshops for everyone to take part in.
Keep an eye on this space for more information as it gets closer to this celebratory month.
