Creative Arts

Tandanya has several galleries featuring local, national and internationally acclaimed artists. Our curator searches for the best quality exhibitions from all over Australia and for works that best reflect the diversity and vibrancy of culture and art within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Around fifteen high quality exhibitions of contemporary and traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork by remote, regional and urban based artists are shown every year.

The regularly changing and diverse exhibition program assists in the preservation and development of knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture through a wide range of media including painting, sculpture, and photography.

Exhibitions encompass the diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures throughout Australia and support emerging, mid-career and established Indigenous artists as well as major touring shows. Several exhibitions compliment major nation wide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander celebrations as well as supporting Adelaide-based festivals and events.

If you are interested in having an exhibition at Tandanya or have any queries in regards to the exhibition program, please contact Kate Wake, Visual Arts Manager on 08 8224 3234 or .

You could experience the yidaki (didgeridoo) being played and hear our cultural instructor talk about one of the world’s oldest musical instruments and about their passion for playing it. Or watch the traditional Torres Strait Islander dance and listen to storytellers.

Tandanya is host to many dance, comedy and theatre performances throughout the year. To find out what is coming up please go to Exhibitions/Events.

Film

Tandanya is home to a 147 seat theatre which comes alive with film each day following the midday cultural performance.
